Understand the number before the decision

Sale profit and margin are different

Sell a unit for 40 with product cost 18, shipping 4, packaging 1 and fees of 3% plus 0.30. The unit contributes 15.50 and its margin is 38.75% of selling price. This is contribution after the entered variable costs, not net profit after rent or income tax.

Margin versus markup

Margin divides unit contribution by selling price. Markup divides the same contribution by total unit costs including the entered fees. In this example markup is about 63.27%. With zero costs, markup is undefined; the tool shows a dash rather than an invented percentage.

Enter what your store actually pays

If the customer pays for shipping, include that payment in selling price and enter your own shipping expense. Allocate order-level expenses when selling bundles. Add a returns allowance to product cost if you have real data for it. This calculator does not connect to your store or predict sales volume.

What is included?

Price and costs are per unit. Fees are a percentage of the sale amount plus a fixed per-unit fee. Exclude recoverable sales tax from both price and cost so it is not counted as profit. Add advertising or return allowances to unit cost if needed. Numbers round for display only, except suggested price and break-even units, which round up. Currency is a label only. No exchange rates, preset provider fees or input uploads are used.
