Use width for a fixed delivery width while keeping the original aspect ratio. Use longest side for a mixed batch of portrait and landscape images. For example, a 2400 × 1600 photo becomes 1200 × 800 when its width is reduced to 1200 pixels. A width setting alone does not turn it into a square.
Fit a product in a 1200 × 1200 square
Set a 1200 × 1200 canvas and select contain. A 1800 × 1200 photo fits as 1200 × 800 pixels, with 200 pixels of padding above and below. The whole product stays visible. JPEG fills padding with your chosen background color; PNG and WebP can preserve transparency. This fills empty space and does not remove an existing photo background.
When to crop
Use cover/crop to fill the entire frame when trimming the edges is acceptable. The crop is centered. Inspect faces, package labels and text near the edges before processing the batch. If your subject is off-center, choose contain or prepare the crop in another editor first.
Avoid unnecessary enlargement
Upscaling cannot recover missing detail. Leave enlargement disabled unless a fixed delivery size requires it. A small source may remain smaller than your requested width when enlargement is disabled. A fixed contain canvas can still add padding around it. Inspect small product text at the final size.
Prepare a consistent online store batch
Start with one representative photo and one awkward portrait or landscape image. Choose the same canvas, background and format, then compare the previews. Check the destination store’s current image requirements before choosing dimensions; these presets are editable starting points, not a guarantee of acceptance by a marketplace.
